What boat could be complete without a sound system? On Zanshin the factory option is a Pioneer car stereo amplifier and Bose® speakers in the salon and outdoor speakers in the cockpit. It took me quite a while to realize that there was a hidden sub-woofer aboard as well, one can feel the bass vibrations but it is hard to localize where the sound is coming from, but while cleaning up underneath the floorboards I discovered where it had been installed. Although it is only a car stereo system the speakers give a great sound both inside and outside. While radio reception can be spotty in the islands with the most powerful and clear channels tending towards the conservative Christian (Baptist) end of the radio spectrum, a small iPod with USB connection gives a quick and simple way to play all of one's music.

Stereo aboard Zanshin The main unit is a car stereo one - but it is 12V and works well to produce good enough sound for me.
