Guadeloupe to Antigua Race (pre-event)

The evening before I had spoken with Claire, who along with Steve, was responsible for the finish line of the Guadeloupe - Antigua race and was asked along (perhaps because I admitted to a smidgen of French in order to assist with possible language difficulties on the VHF). So after completing my clearance formalities in the morning at English Harbour, much speeded up with the new eSeaClear system, and returning to the boat for a coffee I headed out again at 11:30, tied up my dinghy in Falmouth, walked to the docks in English Harbour, took M&M's water taxi to Galleon Beach and then walked up to the lookout point above the bluffs at the entrance to English Harbour. There was a security guard posted at the path beginning and it turns out that the whole Shirley Heights areas was closed off all day due to a promotional film that they were shooting there; they'd not only closed off the roads leading up, but had posted sentries at each of the footpaths leading up as well. Luckily I was passed through when I mentioned the lookout and race and was soon at the vantage point for the finish line of the race. It is an ideal location for observers - located high above the water with an unobstructed view, with a table and benches in the shade of a big Flamboyant tree and cooled by the breeze blowing by.
I did (finally) remember to take my tripod along and managed to take some pictures of the finishers, although the distance involved was just a bit further than the focal length of my lens actually could do; I should put a long telephoto lens on my list of things to get for the camera, right after the fish-eye lens which has been on top position on that list for over a year.
The pictures of the race boats are listed in alphabetical order by boat name and not by arrival position or time; there are also a number of shots of other, noncompetitor, boats along with some scenery of the view from our lookout position at the top of the bluffs.

Noncompetitor boats
Noncompetitor boats Taken from the ruins of Fort Charlotte, overlooking the entrance to English Harbour on Antigua.
