The previous car rental agency here at the Marina bas du Fort had ripped me off, stating that they had to charge a €20 “cleaning fee” although the car was in exactly the same condition inside and outside when I returned it as when I'd picked it up; so I opted to use the other rental agency in the marina to rent a vehicle for two days so that I could do my shopping in the huge Zone Industrielle Jarry on the other side of Pointe-a-Pitre and also tackle the longer hike up the hillside above the Carbet falls. The car that I got has seen some miles had been dented a bit, but it worked and that was all I wanted.
I headed off to Jarry with the intention of getting the 4µF 370V capacitor from one of the many pump/air conditioning places but that short trip turned into a 3 hour trek through just about every store (I stopped counting at 13) and the only place that even came close to having what I was looking for was the first stop (a store specialising in pumps) but they didn't carry the correct size cap. All I had to show for my travels was a slight dip in the fuel tank reading, a bagful of Nespresso pods, and 4 plastic bottles of 9.0‰ NaCl saline solution; which will go in the first-aid box as replacement for the now dated infusion & irrigation kits.
I did get myself hoisted up the mast in the afternoon to remove the one remaining down light on the first set of spreaders so that I can get either the same light or a matching set at one of the chandleries tomorrow. After that quick job I did go around the decks checking for rust incursions (I found a few small spots) and then I cleaned and waxed the transom which had seen a lot of salt water and was looking chalky.
