Rather than take the big boat into Gustavia to clear in, I opted to use the dinghy. I got the outboard installed early in the morning, put my papers into the backpack along with an emergency VHF handheld radio and after donning a fresh shirt made my way to distant Gustavia. The shallow and narrow cut between Anse Colombier and the little islet was dangerous today, with surprisingly large waves breaking there. Those waves hadn't been in the forecast, but I made my way around the outside of the island in light winds but that big slow swell moving me around a bit. Once in the lee of the shore side cliffs there was no wind at all and the trip into the harbour was a fast one. As it is “off season” now the anchorage and harbour was very empty indeed and I soon had my clearance done. One gets a free access code to the internet and I used my tablet to see what e-mails had collected as well as to download some PDF documents for the Arduino but that took a very long time with the slow connection speed. Once the computer stuff was done I got some shopping done at the store and headed back to Anse Colombier.
Of course I hadn't downloaded all the files I needed, but I didn't realize that until I started work on the computer, so I shelved that project and tried to solder the very fine broken wires to the flash attachment on my underwater camera housing, but that project was also a failure. I'd soldered the one broken wire on, but in the process of putting the little flash shoe back on I must have broken the next wire and shelved that task as well - I'll have to see if Ikelite offers the cable as a replacement part. But I did put the wide-angle lens on the camera and took a dive around the anchorage to see what sights were to be had, then used the remainder of the air in the tank to give Zanshin another round of cleaning.
