I woke up far too early this morning and finally got around to doing some long-postponed chores aboard. I defrosted the freezer and put in the insulation material I'd purchased yesterday, then started defrosting the fridge but since I can't reach the evaporator plates with warm water I will need the ambient air to do that, so I am finally taking the time to play catch up on my blog entries for the past week. Once the insulation was fitted I restocked the fridge and freezer with the items I'd removed and put in thermal plastic bags and hope that my significant energy drain from the two units will finally go down. The remaining insulation material will go on top the two hatches - to keep the heat from slowly draining in.
I decided to leave tomorrow morning, after getting fresh baguettes from the baker; so I left the dinghy engine mounted and went ashore for dinner and drinks; but the restaurant I wanted to try was unfortunately closed this evening so I ended up at my accustomed seat at Calmos Caf€ and had a full meal there while looking at the boats in the anchorage.

Fitting foam in the freezer The black insulation foam might look ugly, but I hope to reduce my energy use significantly by adding a bit more insulation.

Fridge insulation foam The foam cut to fit in the bottom of the fridge. This is special foam used in cooling systems and is designed not to soak up moisture, so I think that it will last and hopefully it will make a difference in my energy consumption.
