Sailboat “Zanshin” - single handed voyages around the Caribbean, with logbook, pictures and blog pages

The aft starboard section of Hull 68, the future Zanshin at the factory during the final stages of construction. The hull itself is finished but the guts of the boat are still being completed and much of the boat is protected by bubble-wrap and other coverings to keep it from being damaged.

The new Zanshin, a Jeanneau 57 yacht, has finally been completed after a year of waiting. The olde Zanshin I (a Jeanneau 49DS) is in new hands and has been re-christened “Miriam's Star” by her new owners, so the name is now free and clear. I spent the latter part of November 2011 completing the commissioning process in Annapolis and accepting the yacht from the Bay Yacht Agency and sailed it down to St. Martin in the Caribbean with 2 friends on a quick passage of 8 days.

The new Zanshin is indeed a yacht rather than a boat. With 8 feet more length than Zanshin I, this new vessel is quite a bit larger, both inside and outside. I've become quite attached to the name Zanshin, so I will also be giving the new yacht the same name and have worked on this site to rename the references to the first Zanshin to Zanshin I in order to avoid too much confusion in boat naming.

Once I'm settled into the new Zanshin my plans include sailing around the Caribbean waters and, when the time is right, a slow set of passages circumnavigating the globe along the so-called “barefoot route” which entails staying in warm climes and avoiding the rough and potentially dangerous waters around the capes.

I'm working at getting some bright LED lights installed under the Bimini in the cockpit ofZanshin I. The box to the left is a dimmer I put together that uses PWM (pulse width modulation) to save energy.
